Creating a MyNCEES Record was the most painless step in my journey to becoming a PE. Making the account and all of the verification work they do is free. I only had to pay when the completed and verified record was submitted to the state board with my application. I was glad that the Florida Board of Professional Engineers (FBPE) was willing to accept this record for my application for PE.

The entry categories are enumerated below accompanied by a brief description of the required level of effort. The longest wait was for my transcripts. The whole process took about a two weeks.

Contact information

Provided my phone number, emergency contact, and address.

Personal information

Provided full name, birth name, date of birth, birth city, birth state, and citizenship information.

Education information

I provided details for each degree. Then I created an account with Parchment to order my transcripts to be sent directly to NCEES. I only needed to know my id number. I was amazed at how streamlined this process has become. It worked perfectly.

Exam and License Verification

My recent exam history was loaded for me automatically. I didn’t have to request license verification from any state boards since this was my initial PE license.

Work Experience

List all experience, whether or not it was engineering, in chronological order beginning with graduation from undergraduate university. No time gaps are allowed. This took me a while because I could not just copy and paste everything needed from my resume.

Tasks and Duties of the jobs must be listed separately from Representative Projects.
Tasks and Duties are what you typically have on a resume. They are the job requirements at large. This was a copy and paste operation.
Representative Projects are what you typically have on a curriculum vitae (CV). This was tough to do for my time at the labs, but I managed.

You submit the information to NCEES when you are ready. They review the information and accept or reject with comments.

You submit the information to your supervisor for verification after NCEES accepts all of the information. It only takes a name and email address.

My supervisors told me that they were required to answer three yes/no questions for each of my entries. They estimated it took them about 10 minutes.

Professional References

Submit five references who can describe the character and diversity of your experience and are personally acquainted with your professional reputation. Your references must be currently licensed professional engineers, and known as such to you. References may not be your relatives by blood or marriage. This also only takes names and email addresses.

My references told me it was very easy, but their input was never revealed to me.

Questions for the Applicant

This section exists simply to have you on record verifying that the information you submitted is true and accurate. It does go on to explain that if they find out you have lied to them, then you will feel the full wrath allowed by law brought down upon you.
